Compact equipment makers launch next-generation machines built for tight job sites, versatility and operator comfort
Manufacturers are rolling out a wave of new mini excavators designed for urban construction, where limited space, transport regulations and precision operation present unique challenges. The latest models span the 1- to 9-metric-ton range, with a focus on compact footprints, zero-tail-swing designs and enhanced hydraulics.
One major manufacturer unveiled three new models, including a 9-ton short-swing machine offering 28% more engine power and a cab 30% larger than its predecessor, alongside two 7-ton models delivering double the hydraulic flow of previous generations.
Another brand launched several models for confined spaces, including an ultra-compact machine weighing just over 1 metric ton and narrow enough to pass through standard doorways. The company also introduced 2- to 3-ton models, one featuring a tail swing radius of just 750 mm.
A third manufacturer debuted five in-house designed mini excavators spanning 1.3 to 6 metric tons, all with zero tail swing.



Another company announced a new series factory-equipped with an angle blade, thumb, auxiliary hydraulics and quick coupler, including a zero-tail-swing model for confined sites.
Additional launches include a zero-tail-swing model light enough to be towed behind a half-ton pickup, and a 2.7-ton machine designed for easy transport under the 3.5-tonne limit with rental-friendly features like anti-theft technology.
The focus on urban construction reflects a broader market shift: the 0–2 tonne segment now accounts for 39% of the construction machinery market. Manufacturers are responding with features once reserved for larger machines-advanced cabs, telematics and tiltrotator compatibility-to boost productivity and lower ownership costs in increasingly constrained urban environments.
